My Tribute to Tipsy - Kerry Pippin - Our English Springer Spaniel

Tipsy doing what she loved the most!

04/07/1995 - 27/12/2009

Colour: Liver and white

Sire: FTW Cressett Crest

Dam: Webbswood Rumba

She was absolutely adorable with an ego the size of a house! Willful and game for anything, Independence Day was a good day for her to be born on!

We didn't have a choice regarding which pup we could have from Tipsy's litter. There were four dogs and two bitches and one bitch was already booked but hadn't been decided upon. We first saw Tips at 3 weeks old, what a sweet, little handful she wouldn't turn out to be!!

Anyone who has had a springer will know how much work they are. I do object, however, to the many people who say, "Oh yes, they're those crazy spaniels". Yes, she can be a bit of a looney but anyone who believes they are not intelligent may live to regret it!!

Tips went to puppy classes and passed her socialisation and behaviour tests. She passed her Kennel Club Good Citizen Award within eight weeks and went on to do obedience. If there's one thing that we've battled with all her life it is walking to heel. Anything else she would do (especially finding the scented tissue) but we decided after several weeks that obedience was not her thing.

Her pedigree is full of Field Trials Champions and her natural ability was obvious for anyone to see when we are out walking. We did try and take her to a Gundog Club, but we couldn't find a Club nearby so we decided to concentrate on something else to satisfy her enthusiasm for life.

Enter agility! Wow - what fun she had showing me up. It took us three years to get a clear round, mainly due to her thinking that weaving was a complete waste of time when there was more fun to be had! Since then we have never looked back with clear rounds and/or placings at every show we attended and the occasional trophy just to prove it wasn't a fluke! During training sessions it was obvious that her twelve year's experience had a lot to do with our successes.

Has she slowed down? Only just, this dog would give her last breath for just one more piece of the action. . . . . . .

We were all heartbroken when Tipsy died on Sunday 27th December 2009, its still so hard to believe she's not here anymore. A first class partner, pet, comedian, protector and companion to the Gilbert family, this Page will remain my tribute to her and the spirit and courage she showed to face everything that life threw at her in true springer spaniel style.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
