About Belgarath Dark Angel At Bordertrix

Sunnie aged 18 months

It is with a heavy heart that I announce Sunnie's was put to sleep on the 8th December 2011. She had not been well on and off for a couple of months but recently had definitely not been herself, so I had to make that awful decision to end her suffering. I can't believe she has gone from us and can only take comfort in the legacy which she left behind, for which, I am eternally grateful. I will never forget you Sunnie-bun, you were such a Lady right to the very end.

I contacted Sunnie's Breeder through a Border Collie Club after requesting puppy listings from the Secretary. I informed the Secretary of my worries of mixing border collies and children and she was very helpful and gave me the number for Sunnie's Breeder, Chris Sherwood. I explained that I was looking for a puppy bitch mainly to do agility with and she said she had one that was suitable.

We travelled up to Derbyshire and saw Sunnie when she was three weeks old. We were interviewed by Chris and her husband (and her dogs). My children were three and one year so Chris was very vigilant as to their behaviour when her dogs were let in. We passed the test and picked Sunnie up at eight weeks old.

We attended Puppy Classes and she passed all her socialisation and behaviour tests. She then went on to pass her Good Citizens Bronze eight weeks later and soon after came 4th in a "Fun Obedience Show" with 21 other competitors.

She is a little darlin', definitely a Mummy's girl and so easy to train. She took to agility after some teething problems (didn't like heights - doh!), never missing a contact and like she'd weaved all her life.

Sunnie will train with Hayley and Sally-Anne but, unfortunately, as she is so attached to me, will not compete for anyone else.  She has the sweetest temperament, is kind and gentle, especially to children, and will put up with any game the children choose to play (in fact she is always begging to be included)! She's an excellent family dog, easy to train, beautiful and very, definitely my girl.

Sunnie made my dreams come true when she gave birth to the first litter of BORDERTRIX puppies on February 17th 2006. It was one of the most overwhelming and enjoyable experiences of my life and I can't thank her enough. It was my first time as an impending birth assistant but we worked together to add five fantastic puppies to the world's population. See her Puppies on their individual pages.

Sunnie died on December 8th 2011 and has left a huge hole in our family. This photo was taken in one of her last runs in the Allsorts Class at the JDA Agility Show in June 2011, where she finally accepted that it was okay to run with Hayley handling her.

It will take a long time for me to accept that she has gone, I still can't believe it. I can take comfort in having her daughter and grandson with us and ensure her legacy will live on in them and their offspring. I like to think that Sunnie and Tipsy are now arguing at Rainbow Bridge over who I miss the most!! Take care of one another and "Talk about it calmly Ladies!" :-)) xx
