Sometimes with all the best will in the world and no matter how much care you take to home your puppies with the right family, things happen beyond anyone's control. Chloe was returned to us on Monday 26th February 2007. It wasn't her fault - just one of those things and her family were devastated at having to give her up.
She bonded with me immediately which I didn't expect, she followed me everywhere. Skye had to move out for the week as I knew she would definitely have something to say about another young bitch being in the house. Sunnie bore her presence with an obvious show in lack of interest and Tips couldn't care a less - one collie's as much as another!
Apart from being overweight, occasionally wetting in the house and pulling on the lead - which I sorted immediately - Chloe had no vices that I could find during that week with us. She soaked up all the attention from everyone she met, dogs too. Her first afternoon ended in us taking her to the local primary school where she took it all in and accepted the fuss offered with lots of smiles and waggings of tail. I have never seen such a huge smile on a dog before.
She met Monty and Skye on the local Green where we all played together with no problems. She happily retrieved a ball, came back instantly when asked to and was very responsive to most commands.
A local family had seen her at the School Gates on that first outing and had shown a great interest in her. I wasn't in any hurry to find her a new home or give her to just anyone, this time it was for keeps. However, when the next day the family came to see her again, asking lots more questions, I agreed to do a home visit later that week to see how 'dog friendly' their home would be.
The rest, as they say, is history. Pictured on the left is Chloe, with her new Owner - Chloe! For obvious reasons Chloe has had to have a name change so is now known as Poppy - which was her original name when she was born - arrhh!
We see her regularly about Town and at agility training and occasionally arrange walks together.
She has reached her ideal weight now and looks a picture of health and is very happy in her new home with two cats to harrass.
Just goes to show, sometimes there are happy endings!
